February 2013 meeting

Sorry for having missed the December meeting. The flu has a lot to answer for. Twice in one winter and a chest infection on top of that. I blame it on the non-summer we had last year. Let's hope this year's summer is very much better!

Then, of course - it has to happen once - the camera gave up at the January meeting before I'd even taken one photo and the photos I took on my phone are hopeless, sorry again.

The February meeting was led by Frieda and Ann; we were making begonias from her kits.

Aren't they gorgeous?

We were then set to work on cutting out the leaves and shaping them.

We all ended up with a bunch of leaves still white on the underside, but firmly attached to a stalk of florists' wire.  Next step was painting the undersides similar to the top in  the reddish colour. We used an acrylic paint Frieda brought called Burgundy Rose, a very good match!  A very small brush for the edges and a bigger one for the undersides and if you wanted the stems.

Meanwhile, Rosemary brought the finished tray from the January meeting ready for Valentine's day!
The chocolate box is not only great for transporting small things, it improves the photos too!

Two others brought a crochet item and some embroidery, see it on my blog :)).  The discussion that followed centered on the differences between left and right handed crochet and knitting.

Lucy also had this item on her table; rabbit hutch or chicken run,  maybe a future item for us to make ?

More and more of us finished the leaves and started putting them together for the tiny pots.

Considering this was also our AGM, it was great to see the finished plants within about an hour and a half!

Thank you Frieda and Ann!
